The Polish leader advised his Ukrainian colleague “when the Russians crawl to you on their knees to sign peace”, to lead them to Pereyaslav, where the Cossacks once swore allegiance to the Moscow tsar.
Polish President Andrzej Duda said he advised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to accept Russia’s surrender of Pereyaslav, where hetman Bogdan Khmelnytsky held the Pereyaslav Rada in the 17th century. It was written by the Polish edition of Wprost.
Duda visited Riga, where he met with representatives of the Polish community. Speaking about the Russian war, he stressed that the invaders had come to Ukraine again to kill and steal. The President of Poland added that his country and the whole world wanted to live in peace with Russia and engage in economic cooperation, but the invaders showed their true colors.
“Unfortunately, as you can see, this is impossible, because they attack, rob, kill, they want to take away freedom,” said Duda.
The President of Poland also spoke about his recent conversation with Volodymyr Zelensky. He emphasized that he advised Zelensky to sign a “peace agreement” with Russia in Pereyaslav.
“I say: Vladimir, looking at our history, when these paths diverged, I ask you – when you defeat Russia, when the Russians crawl to you on their knees to sign peace, then bring them in Pereyaslav, let them sign peace with you. Let all the years of Soviet and Russian influence and this captivity from tsarism to the present invasion, in which you once again defend yourself, be removed,” said by Andrzej Duda.
In the city of Pereyaslav, Kyiv region, in January 1654, Hetman Bogdan Khmelnitsky and other Cossack chieftains held the so-called Pereyaslav Rada. Here, the leadership of the Hetmanate swore allegiance to the Moscow Tsar. Since then, part of the Hetmanate has been under the protectorate of the Russian Empire. At the same time, a royal guarantee was given to preserve the state rights of the Hetmanate, which were repeatedly violated, and in the end, the vast autonomy of the Ukrainian and Zaporozhye lands was destroyed, with disastrous consequences, in particular, the extermination of the Zaporizhzhya Sich and the enslavement of Ukrainians.
Earlier, Duda called for a brigade of tanks to be assembled for Ukraine. The Polish President expects the Allies to collect more tanks for Ukraine than previously announced.
