Experts believe that the main reason for the decline in oil refining is the US and EU sanctions, which complicate exports.

Against the backdrop of EU and US sanctions against the Russian Federation after its invasion of Ukraine, the volume of oil refining in the Russian Federation continues to decline – in April it dropped by 7% compared to March, to 670,000 tons every day, Russian media write.

“Moreover, within a month, the dynamics were also negative: on April 19, it reached 675,000 tons per day. Even then, the Ministry of Energy attributed the decrease in oil refining compared to the previous month mainly with repairs to refinery., noting that “this is an annual traditional small decrease in primary processing in April-May,” the article said.

A significant decrease in the level of average daily oil refining was shown by Ufa Oil Refinery and TAIF-NK, which have been idle since April 1 and 8, respectively; Rosneft’s Tuapse refinery, which entered hot circulation in mid -March.

A significant decrease in the load of raw materials was also observed in the Komsomolsk, Achinsk, Angarsk refineries of Rosneft, analysts added.

The main reason for the decline in oil refining is the US and EU sanctions, which have complicated the export of oil and petroleum products within the country.

Recall that the EU introduced the sixth package of sanctions against Russia. This includes disconnecting three Russian banks from the SWIFT system and an oil embargo. Also, UK authorities added 63 more individuals and legal entities to the lists of sanctions associated with Russia. Restrictive measures were introduced against PJSC KamAZ, VGTRK, a number of media workers and top managers of banks.
