Steinmeier announced his readiness to talk to Zelensky

The Federal President wanted to personally express his support and exchange views with Zelensky.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier confirmed his readiness to talk to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Handelsblatt reported this on Wednesday, May 4th.

So, on today’s visit to Romania, the federal president announced his readiness to talk to the Ukrainian leader. Steinmeier wanted to personally express his support and exchange views with Zelensky “if possible.”

“We Germans support Ukraine wholeheartedly,” he said in the Romanian capital Bucharest.

Recall that in mid -April, Steinmeier wanted to go to Kyiv with the presidents of Poland and the Baltic countries, but was refused. According to media reports, Zelensky did not want to meet with him because of the German politician’s close ties with Russia in the past.

It was also reported that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz did not want to go to Kyiv before Steinmeier.
