A significant capacity deficit as of January 28 continues to persist in the energy system of Ukraine.
The required amount of electricity cannot be generated not only because of damage to the equipment of most thermal power plants, but also because power plants with a total capacity of 10 GW are located in the territories occupied by the enemy. Dmitry Sakharuk, Executive Director of DTEK, announced this on the air of the national telethon.
The fundamental problem is the inability to generate the required volume. 10 GW of installed capacity of power plants that were before the war, they are in the occupied territory, he stressed.
According to the official, as a result of drone attacks and missile strikes, about 75% of Ukraine’s thermal power plants were damaged. Now only a quarter of the TPP’s capacity is in operation.
The head of DTEK noted that it is possible to reduce the deficit in the energy system only through the import of electricity and the restoration of damaged equipment. Now the company imports electricity in volumes that can cover the consumption of almost 2 million consumers.
Sakharuk stressed that imports are critical for the operation of the industry and increasing electricity limits for the population.
Recall that DTEK stated that after the attack on critical infrastructure that occurred on January 14, not only planned, but also emergency shutdowns will be carried out, which will “continue for more than one day.” Ukrainians were then urged to prepare for difficult days.
