Washington and Brussels plan on February 5 to reach a consensus on the ceiling on prices for Russian oil products.
The United States of America and the European Union are considering limiting the price of petroleum products from Russia. US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said this, Reuters reports on Friday, January 27.
He noted that the US and the EU could reach a consensus on the relevant decision on February 5. It is on this date that the EU’s ban on the import of Russian oil products is set to take effect.
“We take very seriously the sanctions we have imposed against Russia … And we will respond quickly and harshly to the violation of these sanctions by a local business or government,” the American official emphasized.
The US Treasury Secretary also said that during his visit to South Africa, he discussed sanctions against Russia in every country he visited on his African tour.
As previously reported, EU ambassadors on Friday, January 27, will consider expanding sanctions against co-aggressor country Belarus. This would prevent the evasion of anti-Russian sanctions by companies supplying prohibited goods through an ally of the Russian Federation.
