The sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia includes the disconnection of three Russian banks from the SWIFT system and an oil embargo.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday, May 4, reported some details of the sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia.
“We will finally disconnect Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank, from SWIFT. We will also disconnect two other major banks in Russia from SWIFT,” he said in a speech to the European Parliament.
The European Commission is also proposing to ban EU broadcasting of three major state-owned Russian TV channels.
“Today we will propose a ban on all Russian oil in Europe. It is a complete ban on the import of oil from the Russian Federation, to be delivered by sea and by pipelines, crude and refined oil, “said von der Leyen.
At the same time, he admitted that it would not be easy to take this step because of the serious reliance of a number of EU members on Russia’s oil, but the EU “is only obliged to do so.”
The EC head noted that Russia’s oil embargo should be introduced “in an orderly manner” to give the EU time to find alternative oil suppliers and reduce the impact of sanctions on oil markets. .
He clarified that the decline in oil and refined petroleum products from the Russian Federation should take six months and be completed by the end of 2022.
It was previously reported that Hungary, Austria and Slovakia, which until recently had blocked oil sanctions, had changed their minds. At the same time, Slovakia announced that they would ask the EU for an exception when imposing an embargo on Russia’s oil.
