Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said that Russian forces are “increasing pressure on the Bakhmut and Vuhledar directions”, that is, in the area of two settlements in the Donetsk region.
The Russian army and the Wagner PIK units supporting it have been trying to take Bakhmut for several months now and, according to Western experts, will suffer significant losses there. Losses in the Armed Forces of Ukraine are also reported. The only recent success of the Russian military has been the capture of the city of Soledar, located near Bakhmut.
Vuhledar is located in another part of the Donetsk region, closer to the border with the Zaporozhye region.

Andrey Kovalev, official representative of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, also reported on the fighting in the vicinity of Vugledar on Wednesday.
In Ugledar, too, now there is a defense. Russian invaders are trying to storm the city. It is obvious that there are heavy fighting there now,” Kovalev said on Ukrainian television.
Russian “military bloggers” also report attempts to break through the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Ugledar on their telegram channels.
Today, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed that the Ukrainian units had withdrawn from Soledar, and also assured that they would defend Bakhmut as long as there was an opportunity.
