Counterintelligence of the Security Service prevented the enemy’s undercover penetration into the state authorities of the Sumy region.
The FSB agent received a hostile task to get a job in the Department of Defense Work of the regional military administration. In case of successful infiltration into the ranks of a state institution, he was supposed to covertly collect secret information about the region’s defense system.
The traitor planned to transfer the received information to the enemy through closed channels of electronic communication using pre-worked out conventional symbols.
The SBU exposed the Russian agent, documented his criminal actions and detained him at the OVA administrative building.
The traitor turned out to be a resident of the regional center, whom the FSB recruited before the start of the invasion. The attacker agreed to cooperate because of his pro-Kremlin beliefs and monetary reward.
After February 24, 2022, at the direction of the Russian special services, he reconnoitered the places of deployment and movement of the Defense Forces in the region.
To do this, he traveled around the territory and secretly observed the units of the Ukrainian troops. In addition, he collected personal data of local law enforcement officers and their families.
In order to protect the Russian agent from exposure as much as possible, the occupiers paid for his “services” with cryptocurrency.
During a search at the place of residence of the defendant, the SBU officers found a Russian passport, mobile phones and computer equipment with evidence of intelligence and subversive activities.
On the basis of the collected evidence, the investigators of the Security Service informed him of a suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 (high treason committed under martial law) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court chose a measure of restraint for the attacker in the form of detention.
