Ankara said the visit was futile as anti-Turkish actions by supporters of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party were taking place in Sweden.
Ankara canceled Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonsson’s visit to Turkey. The Turkish defense minister called the planned visit “pointless.” On Saturday, January 21, Anadolu Agency reports.
“In the current situation, Ankara has decided to cancel the visit of the Swedish minister,” Akar told reporters.
He noted that Turkey considers the position of the Swedish authorities unacceptable, ignoring the anti-Turkish actions taking place in this country.
“We hope that Stockholm will take steps and concrete steps in this direction,” the Turkish minister said.
In Sweden, an action was planned by supporters of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Earlier in January, a group of activists close to the PKK circulated a video showing a mannequin depicting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hanging from a bridge in Stockholm. Because of this incident, the Swedish Ambassador was summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
Recall that Erdogan announced an ultimatum to Sweden: he said that Turkey would approve Sweden’s entry into NATO only after Stockholm extradited 130 “terrorists” to Ankara.
Ahead of Sweden, they said they could not fulfill Turkey’s requirements for joining NATO. At the same time, despite the fact that Ankara’s claims are exclusively related to Sweden, Finland will not agree to the ratification of its accession to be completed separately.
