Berlin does not want to “create additional expectations” for their move to Kyiv with the inventory, reports Business Insider.
The German Ministry of Defense deliberately delayed the inventory of existing Leopard tanks in order not to create additional expectations and pressure on the government about their possible Ukraine. This was reported by the American edition of Business Insider.
The media said that the new Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius ordered to review the situation with the Leopard tanks available in Germany. During the discussions, the question arose as to why such an order was given only now, after almost a year of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, and after such a time of discussions about the provision of Western tanks in Ukraine.
Journalists learned from several sources in the German Ministry of Defense that the previous Minister, Christine Lambrecht, was allegedly ordered not to conduct an inventory of Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 in the Bundeswehr.
The possible motives for this are the desire not to create additional pressure on the government of Olaf Scholz regarding the potential supply of tanks – for the reasons that if the Bundeswehr will consider them full-fledged vehicles ready to fight, it can be interpreted as a consent to give them.
The publication sent Christine Lambrecht a request for comment on this information on Friday, January 20, but has not yet received a response.
Note that Germany announced its new one billion euro military aid package for Ukraine.
We also added that in the first half of October, Ukraine received German IRIS-T complexes.
