The war in Ukraine is now in a state of stagnation.
In recent days, the most brutal battles on the Russian-Ukrainian front were fought in three sectors. In the northeast, near Kremennaya, the Ukrainian Armed Forces probably made little progress and successfully defended themselves against the Russian counterattack. This was announced on January 21 by the British Ministry of Defense on Twitter.
It is noted that in the Bakhmut sector of the Donetsk region, the Russian army and Wagner mercenaries are likely to regroup in Soledar after its capture earlier in the week. And in the south, in the Zaporozhye region, both the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the invaders concentrated significant forces that conducted artillery skirmishes, but avoided large-scale offensive operations.
British intelligence notes that, in general, the situation is in a state of stagnation. However, London does not rule out that there is a real possibility of a local offensive by Russian forces near Bakhmut.
Recall that German intelligence informed the political leadership of Germany that every day the Ukrainian army began to lose a three-digit number of military personnel in the Bakhmut area. It was noted that the Russian army operates near Bakhmut “with merciless cruelty”, despite their losses.
The BND also warned that the capture of Bakhmut by the Russians would have serious consequences, as it would allow the occupiers to move further inland.
