The first president of Kazakhstan was operated on at the National Scientific Cardiac Surgery Center.
The first President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, was hospitalized. He underwent heart surgery. This was reported by the Kazakh news agency KazTag, citing its sources on Friday, January 20.
The media added that the former head of the country was taken to one of the clinics in Astana, where he is undergoing a comprehensive heart examination. It was earlier reported that according to doctors, surgery is possible.
A number of Kazakh media said that Nazarbayev was being prepared for a planned operation.
However, Aidos Ukibay, a spokesman for the former president, confirmed that Nazarbayev had undergone heart surgery.
“The operation was successful. There is no threat to the life of the first president. Now he is under observation. The operation took place at the National Scientific Cardiac Surgery Center,” he said.
Note that Nursultan Nazarbayev was the leader of Kazakhstan for 30 years.
In 2019, he resigned, and Kasim-Jomart Tokayev took over as president.
As we have already reported, Kazakhstan canceled a law guaranteeing Nazarbayev immunity from prosecution and certain privileges.
Earlier, Kazakhstan’s Senate adopted legislative amendments removing Nazarbayev’s lifetime leadership of the Security Council and the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan.
