The Netherlands is ready to pay for Leopard tanks sent to Ukraine as part of a coalition of European and NATO allies.
Dutch Defense Minister Kaisa Ollongren said in an interview with Bloomberg on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
According to her, the Netherlands used to pay for the shipment of Soviet T-72 tanks from the Czech Republic to Kyiv, and this approach could be applied to German-made Leopard tanks as well.
This is exactly what we are ready to do,” Ollongren stressed.
Ollongren noted that Poland and Finland have announced that they are ready to send Leopard tanks to Ukraine as part of a coalition, but all such steps will require permission from Berlin as a tank-producing country.
We are all waiting to hear Germany’s position on this, but I am in favor of trying to find a solution and trying to send tanks to Ukraine, she stressed.
It should be added that the German parliament, during its consideration today, January 19, did not support the proposal of the opposition CDU / CSU faction to provide Ukraine with Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine. After the debate, it was decided to refer this issue for further discussion to the relevant Committee on Foreign Affairs.
