In Armenia, a fire broke out on the premises of a military unit in the territory of the Gegharkunik region, killing 15 people. Armenpress reported this on January 19 with reference to the Office of the Prosecutor General.
It was learned that the incident happened on Thursday night at the barracks in the village of Azat due to the ignition of a stove with gasoline.
All the dead were military soldiers. Another six military men and an officer were taken to Gegharkunik garrison hospital with injuries. The condition of three of them was assessed as serious.
According to Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan, the initial cause of the fire was a violation of fire safety rules.
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, at a government meeting, recalled that in December 2022, the Chief of the General Staff banned the use of gasoline and other flammable liquids for lighting stoves.
He emphasized that, according to preliminary information, the officer tried to light the stove using a five-liter container with gasoline. The fire spread to him, and, trying to escape, the military man threw the container towards the barracks.
Earlier it was reported that in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation there was a fire in a military unit. One of the buildings, which was built a few years ago, was completely burned down
