Stoltenberg noted that Ukraine needs not only tanks, but also “more air defense systems”, as well as “spare parts, ammunition and maintenance of equipment that has already been transferred.”
Consultations are underway between NATO countries on sending tanks and other modern weapons to Ukraine. This is what NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Reuters reports.
According to Stoltenberg, Ukraine needs not only tanks, but also “more air defense systems”, as well as “spare parts, ammunition and maintenance of equipment that has already been transferred.”
He noted that now “the main moment of the conflict is taking place,” and the prospects for a peaceful settlement “depend on NATO’s military supplies.”
It is also reported that in parallel with Stoltenberg’s speech in Davos, on January 18-19, a meeting of the Chiefs of General Staffs of NATO countries and partner states is taking place in Brussels, where the course of the conflict in Ukraine and NATO is discussed military aid. These consultations are ahead of the January 20 meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany, where NATO countries will have to make specific announcements about new military supplies to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces in 2023.
Recall that the President of the European Council Charles Michel supports plans to supply tanks to Ukraine.
As reported, according to Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, five countries are ready to transfer Leopard tanks to Ukraine, waiting for permission from Germany as a manufacturing country.
