The money will be directed to various needs – from treatment, psychological help, prosthetics to the implementation of targeted requests, the businessman said.

Businessman Rinat Akhmetov announced the launch of the Heart of Azovstal project to help the defenders of Mariupol and the families of fallen soldiers with a budget of one billion hryvnias. Interfax-Ukraine reported this on Monday, January 16.

“Their deed has no analogues in modern history. It is thanks to them, their sacrifice and courage in stopping the enemy in the first months of the war that we all now feel the inevitable victory of Ukraine. Today I dedicate 1 billion hryvnias to help our soldiers and defenders, as well as their families They will be aimed at various needs – from treatment, psychological help, prosthetics to the implementation of targeted requests,” he said, commenting on the weekend transfer of Ukrainian football player Mikhail Mudrik from Shakhtar Donetsk to Chelsea in London.

Also in his comment, Akhmetov thanked Ukraine’s international partners and promised to play a friendly match with Chelsea at the Donbass Arena in Ukrainian Donetsk.

“I want to thank the whole civilized world for helping Ukraine. Thanks to the Ukrainian army, the Ukrainian people and the great support of the whole civilized world, now we can talk about Ukrainian football. Only together let’s defeat the evil that came to our home … My dream is to win European trophies. It is with players like Mudryk to win these trophies. Unfortunately, now it is impossible, because in Ukraine there is a horrible, unjust war unleashed against us by the Russian Federation. But I am convinced that we will win. And we will play a friendly match with Chelsea at the Donbass Arena in Ukrainian Donetsk. We must do everything possible to bring this day closer,” Akhmetov was quoted as saying by Interfax-Ukraine.

According to the agency, the Heart of Azovstal project will be part of the Steel Front military initiative, for which Akhmetov’s businesses have already transferred UAH 4.3 billion to help Ukraine.

It will be remembered that earlier it became known that football clubs Chelsea (London, Great Britain) and Shakhtar (Donetsk, Ukraine) agreed on the transfer of 22-year-old Mudrik for 100 million euros.
