Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who recently used Dr. Dre’s “Still DRE” in a video, appears to have stopped using the artist’s music after her attorney sent her a cease and desist request and termination. letter this week, TMZ reported Wednesday.
Greene, who criticized Dr. Dre’s music in response to news of the letter, used the artist’s 1999 song in a Twitter videos he intended to recognize House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who was elected speaker after 15 rounds of voting last week.
But the Republican appears to be musical in the next episode, as Stefan Passantino — a White House lawyer for former President Donald Trump — wrote in a letter that Greene’s legal team received the message from Dr.
“On behalf of Congressman Greene, please be informed that you are no longer using [Dr. Dre’s] copyright will be managed by a political committee or through the social network controlled by it,” the letter states.
TMZ previously reported that Dr. Dre’s attorney, Howard King, wrote in the cease and desist letter that the artist would never give Greene permission “to broadcast or release his music.”
“I don’t give my music to politicians, especially someone as divisive and hateful as this,” Dr. Dre said in a message to TMZ.
Greene is known for her extremist far-right politics and her promotion of QAnon and other conspiracy theories. Last year, she was a speaker at a white nationalist conference hosted by a Holocaust denier.
