Poland is ready to play the role of “guarantor” in the framework of the ceasefire agreement with Russia, if these negotiations are successful.
Warsaw became the first potential guarantor capital to announce publicly that it would not participate in a peace agreement if it included the surrender of part of Ukraine’s territory. This was stated on Sunday in an interview with Gazeta.pl by Jakub Kumoch, a foreign policy adviser to President Duda and one of the heads of the Polish presidential office.
Kumoch confirmed that Poland is ready to play the role of “guarantor” in the framework of the ceasefire agreement with Russia, if these negotiations are successful. He also stressed that creating a pool of “guarantors” is not the only option.
“Poland will not abdicate its responsibility. Today we are discussing a draft agreement between Ukraine and the guarantor states. However, this is only the beginning of the path. It is one of the possible ways to end the conflict, “he explained.
The diplomat stressed that the current secret draft of the peace agreement is a document of the Ukrainian author. He also set a condition for Poland’s participation in this process: “If a peace agreement is reached, we are only interested in one that guarantees the territorial integrity of Ukraine and its independence. And only such a document endorsed by Ukrainians. “
He also revealed the details of the negotiations, noting that the surrender of Donbass and Crimea was not taken into account.
“The Russians wanted the guarantees to be a repetition of Budapest, and that Ukraine would further recognize the loss of Crimea and Donbass. But it was ridiculous. In the beginning, they also demanded the disarmament of Ukraine, but demands the disarmament of a state. That the army has defeated a significant part of Russian troops in a land war is disrespectful “,-added Kumoch, noting that Poland supports the idea. of Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
Recall that Ukraine needs security guarantees, which must be implemented according to the “people-hours” formula.
