In the future, signal pistols and crossbows in Germany will only be available with a license.
After the New Year’s Eve riots and the Reichsburger group’s plans to seize power in Germany were exposed by the police, Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Feather intends to tighten the country’s gun ownership laws .
According to the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung on Sunday, January 8, the bill of the Ministry of the Interior provides, in particular, a ban on the possession of particularly dangerous semi-automatic weapons for individuals.
In the future, flare pistols and crossbows, popular among members of the right-wing movement, which does not recognize the existence of Germany, will be available only with a license to carry weapons, the newspaper wrote, citing a 48-page document.
New Year riots and coup attempt in Germany
Feather called for stricter gun laws even before the New Year’s Eve riots.
On the night of January 1, in several German cities, police and firefighters were attacked, including the use of fireworks and rockets. They are especially fierce in some places in Berlin.
However, after the arrest of 25 people from the “Reichsburgers”, the debate on the law on weapons received a new impetus.
Most of those detained are accused by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of belonging to a terrorist organization that wants to overthrow the political system.
