RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro stormed Congress in the capital on Sunday, storming the roof and breaking windows.
Other protesters were gathering outside the presidential palace and the Supreme Court, although it was not immediately clear if they had managed to enter the buildings.
The incidents, reminiscent of the January 6 invasion of the US Capitol, come just a week after leftist President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was sworn in on January 1.
Bolsonaro’s supporters have been protesting Lula’s election victory on October 30, blocking roads, burning vehicles and gathering outside military buildings, calling on the armed forces to intervene.
