US sues opioid distributor for failing to report suspicious orders

United States authorities condemned this Thursday AmerisourceBergen, one of the main distribution companies opioids countries for failing to report suspicious orders made by pharmacies and other institutions.

Speaking to reporters, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Chief Deputy Administrator Luis Miglione explained that the company’s actions have exacerbated ” opioid epidemic it has resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths over the last decade.”

During the call, representatives of the Ministry of Justice assured that the fine for violating the rules anti drug can reach billions of dollars.

As they explained, AmerisourceBergen continued to send orders to opioids pharmacies that their own auditors concluded were selling drugs to people who were likely addicted to opioids.

In one particular case, detailed by New Jersey District Attorney Philip Selling, the company learned that one of the pharmacies they supplied, opioids these types of drugs were sold at the parking lot irregularly.

An employee of the company called the situation “a very clear sign of danger”, and yet the AmerisourceBergen subsidiary continued to send thousands of orders to the pharmacy in question.

The authorities of the Ministry of Justice also explained that this is a civil lawsuit, and not a criminal one, in which they are looking for sanctions financial.
