An elementary school student shot his teacher after an argument broke out between them.
In Newport News, Virginia, USA, a 6-year-old student at a local elementary school shot and injured his 30-year-old elementary school teacher. On Friday, January 6, CNN reported.
The woman was reportedly taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
As local police chief Steve Drew stressed, it was no accident and the boy shot the teacher on purpose after a fight with him.
“We have reached out to our Commonwealth Attorney and several others to ask for support in dealing with this child,” Drew said.
As a student at the same school, a 6-year-old classmate of the suspect, told a Newport News Daily Press reporter that he witnessed the shooting. According to him, the boy shot the teacher in the stomach “on purpose” after which the teacher “knelt down”.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. The police intend to find out how a young child got weapons, as well as to establish all the circumstances of the incident.
The school where the shooting occurred will be temporarily closed.
