The United States government has announced a new package of sanctions against key Iranian officials and an entity involved in the production and transfer of combat UAVs to Russia, as well as the continued missile programs of Tehran. This was stated in the official statement of the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury (OFAC).
OFAC today imposed restrictions on six executives and board members of sanctioned Qods Aviation Industries (QAI), a major Iranian defense equipment manufacturer responsible for the development and production of unmanned aerial vehicles.
At the same time, it is emphasized that we are talking about drones that Iran transferred to Russia for use in Ukraine.
In addition, OFAC clarified that it is listing Light Airplanes Design and Manufacturing Industries as a changed name for the QAI structure. Sanctions are also being imposed against the director of the Iranian Aerospace Industries Organization (AIO), the main body responsible for overseeing Iran’s ballistic missile development programs.
“We will continue to use every tool at our disposal to block the weapons he is using to launch his barbaric and unjustified war against Ukraine,” US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in this regard.
It will be recalled that since September 11, 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have destroyed approximately 500 enemy cruise missiles and more than 540 Iranian-made attack drones.
