The IAEA’s efforts to create a safe zone around the nuclear power plant are unlikely to succeed, Petr Kotin said.
Chapter Energoatom Petr Kotin doubts that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will succeed in creating a security zone around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. He said this in an interview with Bloomberg, published on January 4.
“We don’t think it’s true… It’s a new year, but the zone hasn’t been built yet,” the president of the company said.
Kotin believes that the most likely scenario is to take back control of the ZNPP through military means.
“We rely above all on the armed forces of Ukraine,” he stressed.
According to the head EnergoatomIf the Armed Forces of Ukraine manage to break the Russian positions and capture Melitopol, which is located more than 100 kilometers south of the nuclear plant, “the only option for the invaders is to leave it.”
Recall that at the end of December, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi visited Moscow to discuss the creation of a protective zone around the Zaporozhye NPP.
Following the talks, he said the parties had made “important progress.”
