At least four people died and three more were seriously injured when two crashed mid-air. helicopters on a beach on the Gold Coast in eastern Australia, authorities said on Monday.
Commissioner Gary Worrell of the Queensland State Police, in a press conference broadcast on social media, indicated that six other people suffered minor injuries.
The accident happened around 2:00 pm local time (4:00 GMT) on a long beach near the Sea World entertainment complex, at the height of the tourist season in the ocean country.
“Rescue teams and volunteers quickly arrived to rescue some of the victims,” Worrell said, thanking the people who helped after the crash.
Department of Security and Transportation Australia indicated that he had launched an investigation to establish the causes of the incident, while initial investigations suggest that one of the airplane was landing and the other was taking off when the collision occurred. (EFE)
