The fake accounts spread pro-Kremlin narratives, which justified the occupation of Ukrainian territories, discrediting Ukrainian defenders and government officials.
In Ternopil, cyber police officers, together with the SBU, exposed a bot farm where a local resident distributed pro-Russian content. This was reported by the press service of the Ternopil regional police.
“The activity of the bot farm, which allows the registration of anonymous accounts for the distribution of illegal content, was stopped by law enforcement officers in the Ternopil region. A resident of Ternopil organized a criminal methodology and provided technology support for the entire process,” the report said.
During the investigation before the trial, it was found that a resident of Ternopil in the residential area organized the operation of a hardware and software complex that used a capacity of about 30,000 SIM cards to register a large number of accounts.
It was noted that false information and illegal content were distributed from fake accounts on social networks, in particular, on web resources banned in Ukraine. The messages and comments contain pro-Kremlin narratives, justifying the occupation of Ukrainian territories, war propaganda, defaming the defenders of Ukraine and representatives of the authorities.
During the search, approximately 30 thousand SIM cards, 29 GSM gateways, as well as computer equipment supporting round-the-clock operation of the complex were seized.
A criminal case has been launched, the suspect faces up to eight years in prison.
Recall that last fall in Ukraine, a network of bot farms was exposed, spreading fakes about the war.
Earlier, the SBU neutralized an organized group that created a powerful bot farm to discredit the leadership of Ukraine and undermine the socio-political situation in the country.
