The quality of the newly mobilized Russians will be worse than the previous “party”, believes Taavi Laasik.
The new wave of official mobilization in the Russian Federation will be composed of Russians with even worse training than the reservists who entered the first wave. This was stated by the representative of the Estonian Ministry of Defense Taavi Laasik in a comment to the Estonian edition of ERR on Monday, January 2.
According to him, now there is no official confirmation that Russia is preparing a second wave of mobilization and closing the border, but the possibility of such measures remains in any case.
“They can organize a second wave of mobilization, but we can assume that its quality will be worse than the first. At the same time, it is important not to forget that the covert mobilization in Russia has not stopped. There are statements that the the goals of the mobilization were achieved, but the corresponding activity continued “, he said.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Defense added that the official announcement of the second wave of mobilization should not have any immediate consequences for Estonia, now the Russian Federation is focused only on Ukraine.
Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu also commented on this issue in the media. He believes that a new wave of mobilization will provoke a wave of refugees from Russia to the Estonian border. At the same time, Estonia is not ready to let Russians into the country on the grounds that they are fleeing mobilization.
Note that we previously reported that on December 22, Estonia approved a new military aid package to Ukraine.
In addition, Estonia plans to send mobile medical clinics to Ukraine.
