Japan, which leads the G7, wants to create conditions for intensive discussion about Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Japan intends to invite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to take part in an online format at the G7 summit, which will be held May 19-21 in Hiroshima, the Nikkei newspaper reported.
It was noted that Japan, as a country – the chairman of the Group of Seven, wants to create conditions for intensive discussion about Russia’s war against Ukraine. Zelensky’s speech will introduce the G7 leaders to the current situation.
For Tokyo, according to the newspaper, the coordination of the G7 on this issue is an important step in preparing for a possible conflict with Taiwan. Japan believes that in the event of such a conflict, it will be directly involved in it, and hopes for a swift, decisive response to China, along with the United States and Europe, in the same way as it did in relation to the Russian Federation.
It will be remembered that in December, the G7 discussed the peace proposal of Ukraine, which was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky in a meeting with US President Joe Biden.
