In 2022, Gazprom exported 46% less gas to non-CIS countries than a year before. This is an anti-record in the entire history of the company. Deliveries to EU countries decreased the most – 2.5 times.
According to the results of 2022, Gazprom exported 100.9 billion cubic meters of gas to non-CIS countries (countries that were not part of the former USSR), said on Wednesday, December 28, the head of the company, Alexei Miller . Last year, this number was 46% higher – 185.1 billion cubic meters. Thus, an anti-record was set in the entire history of the company: even in 1990, 110 billion cubic meters of gas were exported.
Deliveries to EU countries decreased the most – 2.5 times. In 2022, Gazprom will supply only about 61 billion cubic meters of gas to the EU, against 146 billion cubic meters in 2021. Rising prices in the second half of the year also reduced supplies to Turkey – according to the newspaper Kommersant, by 19.5%, to 21.5 billion cubic meters. In the outgoing year, Gazprom’s exports increased only to China, where in several days of December the volume of deliveries exceeded contact levels.
Exports may fall further in 2023
In 2023, according to Kommersant, Gazprom’s exports may fall further. Today Gazprom provides the European Union with approximately 68 million cubic meters of gas per day, and it is impossible to significantly increase this volume if the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline is not returned to operation or the transit through Ukraine is not increased – which is almost impossible. in the current political situation.
So, if exports to China are expected to reach 25 billion cubic meters, while deliveries to Turkey and the EU remain at the same level, Gazprom’s total exports to non-CIS countries may drop to 75 billion cubic meters. At the same time, in terms of gas supplies to the European Union, Russia will for the first time overtake the United States, from which the EU received approximately 56 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in 2022.
Gazprom is reducing gas production
In the face of falling gas exports, Gazprom is reducing its production. In 2022, its volume will be 20% lower than a year earlier: 412.6 billion cubic meters compared to 514.8 billion cubic meters. This is also lower than the company’s previous anti-record, set in 2015, when 418.5 billion cubic meters were produced.
“This gas will be enough for us to fulfill all our obligations to our consumers in the country and supply the necessary volumes for export,” said Miller. According to him, by the end of 2022, the company will provide 243.1 billion cubic meters of gas to Russian consumers.

It was previously reported that oil exports from Russia fell sharply after the introduction of the price flow.
Recall that gas reserves in the EU once again exceeded 90 billion cubic meters against the backdrop of a record injection. This continues to more than double the departure from UGS facilities, which was at a historical low for the end of December.
