The network reacted violently to the rings given by the President of Russia to the leaders of the CIS. Putin was compared to Sauron and “approved” a new name for the Russian Federation – Mordor.
Russian President Vladimir Putin presented the participants of the informal summit of the CIS countries with rings. Each yellow and white metal ring bears the symbols of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the greeting “Happy New Year 2023”, as well as the inscription “Russia”.
Putin kept a ring for himself, and presented eight of the event’s guests: the presidents of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia and the self-proclaimed leader of Belarus. It should be noted that, apart from Putin himself, only Alexander Lukashenko put on the ring, other heads of state refused to do so.
The network “exploded” with memes on such an initiative of the Russian president. The number of rings has caused users to compare it to the work of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien lord of the rings and in particular part Brotherhood of the Ring.
Putin has been compared to the lord of darkness Sauron, who distributed the nine rings to the leaders of the nine kingdoms, after which they became his slaves.
It should be noted that after Russia’s mass invasion of Ukraine, the media space and social networks often use the names of dark forces from lord of the rings: Russia is called Mordor, and the Russians are called orcs.
Even the SBU press service commented on the incident with Putin.
“We read that a war criminal gave nine rings” behind the parebrique “and think it will help him defeat us. We read Tolkien and we only have bad news for him,” such a message appeared on the department’s Telegram channel.
The message was illustrated in a photo showing SBU officers looking through a window at Sauron’s residence.
And the adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Anton Gerashchenko, recalled that giving rings is a bad sign.
“Those who know say that this is a quick breakup. But, apparently, Putin is absolutely not superstitious in this matter,” he wrote.
