Rep.-elect George Santos (RNY) recently stood by the lies he spread about his past while campaigning for Congress, which means it’s now a bit ironic to look back at the moment in October when he asked his opponent , the Democrat, if he is “honest.” during the election campaign. (You can watch the moment at 2:30 in the video below.)
Santos, who defeated Democratic candidate Robert Zimmerman in November, admitted to “embellishing” his resume on Monday after a New York Times article questioned aspects of his background, including his education and history.
After initially trying to limit the damage, Santos told the New York Post that he was “embarrassed” by his false and misleading statements, but still intended to be an “effective” House Republican representing residents of Long Island and Queens, New York .
The controversy comes two months after the Republican resume reviewer questioned Zimmerman’s record of telling the truth during a Jan. 6 committee hearing and the committee’s firing of former President Donald Trump over his involvement in the events of around the Capitol uprising.
Zimmerman lobbied Santos about his attendance at Trump’s “Stop the Steal” rally that day and his suggestion to rescue those arrested in Washington, DC on January 6, 2021.
He said Santos also alluded to his 2020 election loss to Rep. Tom Suozzi (DN.Y.) was The outcome fraud.
Zimmerman’s jab at Santos was enough for the Republican to pursue his honesty.
“Robert, not once … I conceded to Tom Suozzi two days after the absentee ballots opened,” said Santos, who waited until two weeks after Election Day to concede to Suozzi in 2020.
“As I argued… Do you have an honest moment in you when you campaign?”
