The German automaker is developing “green gasoline” with Chilean company Highly Innovative Fuels.
The German automaker Porsche AG has started producing electric fuel – e-fuel – one of the types of synthetic fuel. The company also announced plans to increase its capacity to several million liters per year by the middle of this decade. This was reported by the press service of Porsche.
The German company, together with Chilean partner Highly Innovative Fuels, opened its first plant in Chile.
The capacity of the plant will initially be only 130,000 liters of fuel per year, which will be used for motorsport and research purposes. However, it plans to increase production to 55 million liters per year by 2025 and up to 550 million liters per year by 2027.
Porsche intends to sell electric fuel to oil companies for further distribution.
The company also noted that the development and production of electric fuels will not affect its plans to electrify 80% of Porsche’s vehicle lineup by 2030.
E-fuel is a type of synthetic methanol produced by a complex process using water, hydrogen and carbon dioxide.
Electric fuels can provide nearly CO2-neutral operation of internal combustion engines. However, cars still need to use petroleum oil to lubricate the engine.
Recall that, according to the results of 11 months of 2022, registrations in Ukraine of new and used electric vehicles in January-November exceeded the same indicator of the previous year by 54.5% – up to 11,759 units .
