Left side or right side? Japan Airlines just launched a tool on its website that shows you which side of the plane to stand on to see Mount Fuji. All you have to do is specify the departure and arrival airports (domestic flights only). On the Tokyo-Osaka flight, it is better to choose a seat on the right side of the plane. On Tokyo-Hiroshima it is better to be on the left. On the other hand, it is impossible to see the top on the Tokyo-Kumamoto flight because the plane flies directly overhead; this privilege is then reserved only for pilots. Too bad the tool doesn’t pinpoint the best seats to choose. These are logically window-side seats away from the wings, so preferably at the front and back of the plane.
Peak visible in winter
The highest point in Japan (at an altitude of 3776 m) is visible 10-15 minutes after taking off from Tokyo-Haneda Airport. Japan Airlines, however, warns that “flight route may change due to weather conditions and flight time“and”you won’t be able to see Mount Fuji after dark“. The company notes that you’re more likely to see the summit in winter, when there’s less moisture in the air. For travelers who prefer to travel on the Shinkansen, Japan’s bullet train, the method is simple: stand on the right for the Tokyo-Kyoto direction and on the left for the opposite direction.
This is not the first time that the Japanese company, ranked 6th in the world according to the latest Skytrax ranking, has helped its passengers choose the best seats. From September 2021, Japan Airlines has made it possible to see the seats that will be occupied by children under the age of two on the plane map at the time of booking. And so being able to sit a few rows away if one is looking to relax.
