Ministry of Health care announced that the first batch of monkeypox vaccine, consisting of 5600 doses of the antigen, will arrive in Peru this Wednesday, October 19.
These first vaccines are part of 9,800 doses of the virus vaccine purchased by the government, with a second shipment of 4,200 doses scheduled for November 16 next year.
Ministry of Health care indicated that this important batch of vaccines will be given as a first phase to previously identified vulnerable populations that are at greater risk of developing serious monkey virus.
According to the organization, the purchased vaccines are called “Jynneos” from the Danish laboratory Bavarian Nordic and consist of third-generation non-replicating and modified live Ankara vaccinia virus. Minsa notes in its statement that these vaccines have proven to be safe and effective.
Doses are received as a result of coordination between the Government of Peru and the Revolving Fund Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
Lima metropolitan area has 78% of detected cases
The Ministry of Health (Minsa), in its latest report on the incidence of monkeypox in our country, revealed that a total of 2687 accumulated cases of the disease were registered, of which more than 2000 were registered in Lima metropolitan alone.
According to this report, the capital has accumulated 78% of reported cases of monkeypox since the first confirmed case in Peru on 26 June.
The disease is still present in 18 regions of the country and in the constitutional province of Callao. In fact, according to the numbers, Callao follows Metropolitan of Lima in some cases, a total of 184 patients.
