Gendarmes on e-bikes roam the vineyards of Champagne while pickers are busy picking the grapes. A bus in the colors of the chief of police is parked in one of the villages of Epernay district. From mid-August to the end of September, a new mobile brigade called “Gend’Viti” has been hard at work preventing any incidents during this key time of the year for the prestigious park. This force of five gendarmerie and reservists stems from the Champagne project, which was signed ten years ago between the national gendarmerie and the inter-specialty of Champagne, with the aim of securing the sector economically.
