The number of people who died on the roads of mainland France in July rose by 8% compared to the same month in 2019, the reporting year before the pandemic, Road Safety said on Friday (August 19).
In one month, 354 people died in mainland France, compared to 328 in July 2019, according to a press release from the National Interministerial Observatory of Road Safety (ONISR).
Adding trips
According to preliminary data, 158 drivers, 44 pedestrians, 29 cyclists and 98 motorcycle users were killed this month, which is a slight increase compared to 2019. Compared to July 2021, weekend peaks are more than 10% higher.
In the Overseas Territories, 23 people died in road accidents in July 2022, compared to 30 July 2021 and 24 July 2019. In 2021, 2,944 people died on the roads of mainland France.
