Le Figaro. – The liturgical issues, then the dismissal of Bishop Aupetit, the recent warning against the bishop of Strasbourg, the suspension of ordinations in Toulon, testify to a certain authoritarianism on the part of Rome in the management of the church. What is happening ?
Bishop of Moulins-Beaufort. – These decisions show the Holy Father’s active attention in pursuing dioceses. We all owe it to the faithful, and even more so to Christ, to have great clarity in our way of guiding our dioceses, so that truly God’s mercy is the rule. The Pope comes to the aid of delicate situations where misunderstandings are at risk. To those who see only the final interventions, they seem cruel. They are often preceded by a long period of reflection and analysis. For my part, I think that we can make progress in episcopal conferences, in mutual support.
But all this creates an atmosphere of deep anxiety for everyone…
