Relocating nursing home residents to another facility, preventing new residents from entering… These disaster scenarios can multiply over the summer, aging experts warn. It is already a reality in Amiens. About fifty residents will have to leave the Saint-Victor center, which includes Ehpad and long-term care units (USLD), due to a shortage of caregivers. Some of them have joined the CHU in the north of the city, while others have to be distributed to other care facilities.
Every year between July and August, facilities for the elderly face staffing difficulties due to the vacation of their employees. However, this year the shortage promises to be sharper. In this tense context, the defection of caregivers after the Covid-19 crisis is like a double penalty.
