The sacred image of the Lord of Miracles will not come out in procession during this Easter- said the chief butler of the Brotherhood of Christ Pachacamilla Jose Soto.
“This year it came from ancient times, the image will not appear on Easter,” Soto emphasized, recalling that the last time the procession on these dates was in 2019.
However, he said that April 2, Palm Sunday, Lord of triumph among the blessing of the palms, from Temple of the Nazarene.
“Later there will be a tour of the Lord of Triumph near the institutional premises of the Brotherhood Lord of Miracles”, he added. Soto also revealed that Holy Week events will include activities at the Plaza Mayor, in Lima Cathedral, with a holy rosary.
Soto specified that religious events will take place on Thursday, April 6, and on Friday, April 7th, a Holy Week sermon will be held at the Nazarene Sanctuary.
“On Saturday (April 8) we will have Easter and we will finish on Sunday (April 9),” he added.
Image returned by procession last year
Last year, the image of the Lord of Miracles made its traditional five tours of the year in the Sercado de Lima. Thousands of worshipers accompany the walk after two years of absence due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Purple Christ left the Church of Las Nazarenas and took up residence outside to hear mass presided over by the Archbishop of Lima, Carlos Castillo. Then he made his traditional excursions along Tacna and Abankay avenues.
This year 2023, the days of Holy Week indicated on the calendar are Thursday 6th and Friday 7th April. These holidays, added to Saturday April 8th and Sunday April 9th, create a long weekend suitable for short walks.
These celebrations begin on Sunday, April 2 (Palm Sunday), and then continue on Maundy Thursday, the day when the 7 churches are traditionally visited in memory of the Passion of Christ, and on Good Friday, the time when Jesus of Nazareth died.
