National Prosecutor’s Office announced in a statement that 192 people detained after the intervention at the University of San Marcos were released following the conclusion of the police proceedings. They were at the headquarters of Dirinkri and Dirkote.
The Ministry of Defense clarified that one person was detained because he had a requisition. However, the rest will be able to regain their freedom to start the journey back to their cities.
Another important statement from the institution is that it has ordered a preliminary investigation into the alleged commission of crimes against property against National University of San Marcos. This came after the same training center condemned the actions of the national police on campus.
With regard to the three individuals linked to the alleged terrorist links, it was reported that two have been released and another has been subpoenaed while the related investigations are ongoing.
San Marcos blames the PPP
The mayor of the National University of San Marcos said this Sunday there was an “abuse of power” against its students “arbitrarily intervening” during a national police operation carried out on campus to evict protesters who had entered since Thursday.
The research house also said in a statement that it “only” asked the authorities to “open the doors occupied” by the subjects.
“On Saturday, January 21st, National Police of Peruapparently using force, entered the campus without the presence of Ombudsman no representative public service. Therefore, we condemn the abuse of power against our meddling students,” the document says.
The above statement, released today, contrasts with another statement released yesterday, in which the university authorities confirmed that the police “acted in office” while doing assignments at the university.
“Under the current state of emergency in the country (…) the National Police of Peru acted in office recovery doors Ciudad Universitaria that were captured and violated protesters who participated in the marches at the national level,” the statement said yesterday.
