The disease has been identified in 12 countries around the world. including Japan and Canada. Scientists believe that adenovirus may be the cause.
The first 200 cases of a mysterious outbreak of acute hepatitis in children have been reported worldwide. This was told to the World Health Organization in a briefing.
One child died. Approximately 10% with this diagnosis require a liver transplant.
The WHO said that “the causes of the cases remain under active investigation, a number of possible underlying factors are being studied.”
In turn, scientists believe that adenovirus, which is a common infection in children, can be the cause. However, the virus was found in approximately 74 cases of hepatitis diagnosed.
“It is not uncommon for an adenovirus to cause such severe symptoms, which is why it is being actively investigated,” added Philippa Easterbrook, WHO Senior Scientist.
Recall that earlier at the Medical University of Vienna, scientists found a plant that is effectively resistant to hepatitis C.
In Ukraine, only 6.5% of patients with hepatitis C know their diagnosis
