The mission symbolizes not only the first launch of its kind, but also the potential of a new India, the company said.
India launched its first private rocket Vikram-S into space. This happened as part of the startup Skyroot Aerospace on Friday, November 18, with the support of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), reports CNN.
“The launch will help test and validate most of the technologies on the orbital-class Vikram-series space launch vehicles, including many of the subsystems and technologies that will be tested before and after launch,” Skyroot Aerospace said.
The rocket weighing 546 kg was launched from the Sriharikota spaceport and reached a height of 89.5 km.
“This mission symbolizes not only India’s first private rocket launch, but also the potential of a new India,” Skyroot Aerospace co-founder Pawan Kumar Chandana said after the launch.
Skyroot Aerospace started operations in 2018. It is based in the South Tech Hub of Hyderabad. The startup has already raised $68 million in funding.
Recall that earlier India successfully tested a new short-range anti-aircraft missile developed for naval ships. The rocket was launched from a vertical launcher at the Chandipur test site in Odisha.
