Inside the Atos supercomputer factory

Special Envoy of the Angers

A few kilometers from Angers station stands an industrial site unique in Europe. It is the supercomputer production and assembly plant of the French Atos group. An ultra-strategic location from which Leonardo has just emerged, a supercomputer for the inter-university Cineca consortium in Bologna, Italy. With a measured computing power of 174 teraflops, the system is the fourth most powerful computer in the world, according to the new Top 500, a global ranking of very high performance computing (HPC).

The result of a European collaboration that can perform 174 million billion calculations per second, this technological behemoth will help model the risks associated with extreme situations such as earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, floods, and help fight epidemics or pandemics.
