car parks in France will need to cover solar panels if they have a minimum capacity of 80 cars.
The measure was approved by the French Senate as part of a renewable energy campaign promoted by the president. Emmanuel Macron.
There is still a deadline
This measure applies to both old and new car parks with the country.
Those with space for 80 to 400 vehicles will need to implement these panels within 5 years. Those who have the opportunity to do more should do it in 3 years.
French politicians are also considering building solar parks on vacant lots next to highways and railways, even on farmland.
The goal of the French government is to generate about 11 gigawatts of electricity.
The move comes at a time when European countries are scrutinizing their domestic energy supplies in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Macron and his pursuit of renewable energy
The president Emmanuel Macron has been relying on alternative energy sources for several months now.
He first announced his commitment to nuclear power and then announced his first steps to promote renewable energy in the country.
It was also announced the construction of wind and solar power plants in the territory.
