Elon Musk, new owner Twitterannounced on Tuesday in a tweet the upcoming launch of an $8/month subscription for those users who want to authenticate their account and be less exposed to ads.
The social network has been offering paid features since last year, but Musk wants a new, more expensive and lengthy program to diversify the platform’s revenue streams. – with information from AFP –
After announcing a possible $20 monthly fee, Musk received a flurry of criticism from several users with verified accounts. However, the initial interaction was received by renowned writer Stephen King, after he pointed out that “Twitter should pay me”:
Musk justified King’s tweet by pointing out that he must “pay the bills somehow.” Twitter can’t rely on advertisers alone.” After that, he offered the author of The Dark Tower an average price of $8.
Twitter blue for $8
It is not news that Elon Musk changes his starting position in situations that generate too many conflicts. However, the fact that an inflated price was advertised seems very well calculated to more calmly offer a notoriously lower plan, which, given the overpricing, might be reasonable.
Part of the promise broadcast by Musk on Twitter is the need to eliminate bot and spam accounts: “If a Blue account is associated with fraud or spam, it will be suspended. Essentially, it raises the cost of crime on Twitter.”
Following the final announcement, Musk shared a photo of himself celebrating Twitter Blue’s new $8 price tag by showing off a $7,500 “Devil’s Champion” leather suit at a traditional New York store called Abracadabra. The outfit was worn to model Heidi Klum’s Halloween party.
$8 Twitter Blue: What It Gets
With a current price of $4.99 – yes, half of what Elon Musk wants to charge – Twitter Blue is a subscription plan that combines a number of extra features with traditional web usage.
New features integrated into Twitter Blue include: Saved Items Folders, Custom App Icons – Not available on Twitter.com – Themes – Not available on web and Android – Personalized Navigation, Featured Articles, Easy Reading Themes. and the desired option to undo tweets.
