After Google, Amazon and Apple, it’s Microsoft’s turn to unveil its Surface hardware lineup for the season at its Fall Out 2022 conference on Wednesday, October 12.
At the end of 2021, Microsoft broke into the top five tablet vendors with 1.9 million shipments and a 4% market share, according to a study by Strategy Analytics. The company founded by Bill Gates intends to compete with Apple and Samsung with its new products, which together occupy half of the world market.
Surface, Microsoft’s family of tablets and PCs on its tenth anniversary, is growing with the hybrid Surface pro 9, the Surface Laptop 5 and the two-in-one PC Surface Studio 2+.
50% more powerful
The Surface Pro 9, a tablet computer with a detachable keyboard, was the most anticipated product of the year. In terms of design, little has changed for the tablet. On the other hand, it is compatible with 5G, it is 50% more powerful than the old model.
The company also bet on a more efficient battery. Microsoft promises 18 hours of battery life, as well as reduced charging time.
Bets on artificial intelligence
In addition to these advances, Microsoft is betting on artificial intelligence to improve video conferencing. The Surface Pro 9 is able to track the user’s gaze, adjust its focus based on distance, automatically crop video, and more. To work, the algorithm relies on a micro-directional camera and speakers that can mask extraneous noise, such as coffee discussions or a hair dryer.
The tablet will be available from November 8, 2022 for 1,299 euros.
Software also needs artificial intelligence. During the conference, the company unveiled Microsoft Designer, a graphic design application powered by DALL-E 2, an AI capable of converting text into images.
Two more novelties
More classic laptops also get an upgrade with the Surface Laptop 5. Microsoft announces. “More power and higher performance” thanks to the new processor.
Available from October 25, the 13.5-inch model is offered for €1,179, the 15-inch for €1,529.
The Surface Studio 2+, a desktop computer for professionals and graphic designers, competes with Apple’s iMac. The 2-in-1 still has a 28-inch screen that folds out like a graphics tablet.
If the aesthetics remain the same, the computer evolves within. Microsoft has installed a more powerful graphics card and processor.
The PC release in France is scheduled for November 1, 2022 for €5,589.
