California sued Amazon for forcing its sellers to offer their products everywhere at the same price.

According to Attorney Rob Bonta, Amazon engages in “anti-competitive practices” that cause serious harm to users.

California pounces on Amazon

California notes that Amazon forces retailers to raise prices on their cheapest products available on other sites so as not to hurt yours.

But this is not the first time he has been accused of this. His Washington, D.C. prosecutor also argued the same thing, taking the case to court. However, in this case the complaint was dismissed.

If this new lawsuit is successful, it will ban any contract deemed anti-competitive and notify sellers that they can cut prices elsewhere. Amazon he would also have to pay damages, repay “illegal gains” and appoint a court-approved overseer.

Amazon resists

In a statement to gadgetrepresentative Amazon said California was the situation “exactly the opposite.”

Third parties still control prices, he said. Amazon, and being included in the “Buy a box” box ostensibly shows that the deal is indeed competitive. In addition, he argued that demand would drive prices up.

“Amazon prides itself on offering low prices on the widest selection and, like any store, reserves the right not to highlight offers that are not price-competitive,” the spokesperson said.

“I hope that the court California come to the same conclusion as the District of Columbia Court and dismiss this lawsuit immediately,” a company spokesman said.
