In Ireland, construction has begun on the giant Shannonbridge B battery, which in the event of delays, will provide electricity to the entire country. The Westmeath Independent reported this.
The new €130 million project, developed by Ireland’s Lumcloon Energy and Korea’s Hanwha Energy, will combine a long-life battery with a synchronous capacitor for the first time. The main function of this battery is to support the generation of electricity from renewable sources such as wind and solar stations.
Construction on the facility is due to start in the village of Shannonbridge and will provide around 150 jobs and 15 jobs when completed in late 2024.
The total battery capacity should be 170 MWh. It is assumed that the entire supply is sufficient for three to four minutes of operation of the entire country.
