An archaeological site discovered near Cancun contains more than 300 buildings, some more than eight meters high.
In Mexico, during the construction of the railway near Cancun, a large archaeological site was discovered, including more than 300 buildings. This was reported by The Cancun Sun.
According to experts, these structures are a Mayan settlement, similar to other world-famous ruins in the area. Some of the structures are eight meters high.
It was noted that the new archaeological zone was called Paamul II, and it was planned to give it the status of a protected ecological and archaeological corridor. So far, only 11% of this site has been explored by archaeologists.
During the study of the archaeological site, more than 25 thousand buildings and their remains, 431 solid ceramic pots and 423 bones corresponding to human burials were discovered.
“Most of these objects will be distributed to museums in the region, and houses and temples will be protected, deconstructed or stabilized for further research,” experts said.
It was previously reported that researchers from Curtin, using modern satellite images, discovered the remains of an ancient coral reef.
