LastPassone of the leading password management software on the market today has been hacked cybercriminals. The company that developed the software disclosed a vulnerability in their service and further indicated that part of its source code was stolen during the attack.

how did he know Karim Tubba -CEO LastPass- in the publication on the official page of the company part of the source code software and patented technical information of the company. However, he also mentioned that cybercriminals involved did not enter user information.

“Following an immediate investigation, we found no evidence that this incident involved any access to customer data.”said the CEO LastPass.

Attacker in LastPass

The company found evidence of an intruder in its database, according to a statement from the CEO. Two weeks ago, unusual activity was discovered in some parts of the platform’s development environment LastPass due to third party access “through one compromised developer account”.

From what the company mentions, its “products and services are working fine” and 33 million users who register today – 100,000 accounts are paid, and the rest are free – they should not take additional measures yet, since their accounts have not been compromised.

However, later this hack This poses a clear security risk to customers, as stolen technical information can point attackers to weaknesses in the system and thus prepare for a more complex user-facing operation.

LastPass targeted by cybercriminals

The truth is that this is the second cybersecurity incident that LastPass reports for the last 8 months. In December 2021, several users received warnings about attempts to log into their accounts due to the use of compromised master passwords.

Nonetheless cyber attacks sent to the platform does not stop there, as in June 2015 LastPass reported an intrusion into its internal network, which forced the company to urge users to immediately change their passwords teachers to avoid becoming a victim of these criminals. For this reason, even if the company has mentioned that it is not necessary to change it, it is preferable to change the master password if you continue to use the service.
